Thales of Miletus (/ˈθeɪliːz/; Greek: Θαλῆς (ὁ Μιλήσιος), Thalēs, THAY-lees or TAH-lays; c. 624/623 – c. 548/545 BC) was a Greek-speaking mathematician, astronomer and pre-Socratic philosopher from Miletus in Ionia, Asia Minor.
