People sing karaoke at a bar around the famous Pontocho alley on September 7, 2015 in Kyoto, Japan. The famous city of Kyoto is going through a massive tourism boom. It recently won the title of World's Best City 2015, for the second consecutive year, in the consumer travel magazine Travel+Leisure, World's Best Awards. The total number of visitors to the city continues to climb year on year and the city has set a goal of achieving 3 million foreign tourists, equating to a tourist spend of 1 trillion yen by the time the Olympics arrive in 2020. However, such a surge in tourist numbers does not come without problems and recently, Kyoto city released two etiquette manuals to help tourists behave respectfully. The manuals, one for " How to use a toilet" and the Akimahen use cartoons and emoji's to explain 18 rules of correct tourist behavior, some of which include, where to smoke, when to take your shoes off, where and when you are able to take photographs and how to act appropriately at temples and shrines.
